Legal protection insurance: when is it really worth it?
An employment or tenancy dispute can cost thousands. Check waiting periods and exclusions.
Updated 5 September 2026 · Information drawn from official legal texts (fedlex.admin.ch), the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and Swiss federal data.
The two classic modules
- Traffic: disputes around your vehicle and travel, relevant for regular drivers.
- Private: employment (dismissal, reference), tenancy (termination, service charges), purchase contracts, neighbours, patients…
Check before signing
- Waiting periods: disputes that arose before or shortly after signing are excluded, buying once the conflict is brewing is useless.
- Exclusions: family and inheritance law often excluded or limited to advice.
- Sums and free choice of lawyer: per-case caps and conditions vary a lot.
Our take: particularly relevant for tenants and employees, Switzerland's two most frequent sources of disputes.
