Business & professional liability: your company's shield
Injury, damage or financial loss caused to third parties: without proper cover, your company pays.
Updated 5 September 2026 · Information drawn from official legal texts (fedlex.admin.ch), the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) and Swiss federal data.
Two covers not to confuse
| Business liability | Professional liability | |
|---|---|---|
| Covers | Injury and property damage caused to third parties by your activity, premises, products | Pure financial loss from professional errors (consulting, fiduciary, IT, engineering, medical…) |
| For whom | Practically every business | Advisory and regulated professions (sometimes required to practise) |
Points of vigilance
- Sum insured: CHF 5–10 million is a common standard, check sub-limits.
- Declared activities: an undeclared activity is an uncovered activity. Update at every evolution.
- Useful extensions: environmental damage, entrusted property, directors' & officers' (D&O).
